Attention Grade 3-4 TeachersTake your students back in time! The Friends of the Forestry Farm House invite you to experience a bit of Saskatchewan history. Come to the Superintendent's Residence in the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo for a lesson in conservation, a historical tour of the Forestry Farm House and Park, and information on the trees that shaped our province. Our trained volunteers will lead you and your students in a tour which includes information on the day-to-day operations and life at the Sutherland Forest Nursery Station in the early part of the 20th century. The tour and activities can be tailored to a one, or a one-and-a-half hour time period and may include a walking tour, tree rubbing activity, and explanation of a shelterbelt model. Spring or fall is the perfect time to visit this National Historic Site. It makes a wonderful compliment to a visit to the Saskatoon Zoo. Cost is $1.00 per student. For more information or to book your visit, please call Sue at 653-5395 or e-mail spbarett@sasktel.net. Classroom MaterialsYou may want to prepare your students for their visit by reading Flora McLean's Diary, which is included in the Pre-Visit file attached below. After your visit you may want to do the crossword or shelterbelt activity. Photo credit: Bernadette Vangool |
